These lovely lilac buds are carefully harvested before they reach full maturity and then sun-dried to perfection. Once transformed into whole cloves, these little gems appear as small reddish-brown spikes, typically around 1 cm long, showcasing their unique bulbous tips.

The essential oil content in high-quality cloves can exceed 15%. This oil is predominantly composed of eugenol, which accounts for 70 to 85% of its composition, followed by eugenol acetate at 15%, and β-caryophyllene, which constitutes 5 to 12%. Collectively, these components represent 99% of the oil. Furthermore, cloves contain approximately 2% of the triterpene oleanolic acid.
